Board of Directors
He is a member of the Board and Chairperson of the Social and Ethics Committee. Humphrey is a qualified geologist who is currently the CEO of Tranter Resources (Pty) Ltd. Previously he was the CEO of Scinta South Africa (Pty) Ltd, a coal resources company; the Executive General Manager of Corporate Services at Exxaro Resources Limited; and, prior to that, COO and Executive Director of Eyesizwe Coal (Pty) Ltd, where he was in charge of the Eyesizwe coal mines and growth opportunities.
He has worked in the mining industry all his life, and has in excess of 36 years’ experience. Among others, he worked as a Senior Geologist for Shell South Africa Minerals Division in southern Africa. While at Shell, he was part of the team that discovered the Goldridge gold deposit in the North West province of South Africa. He was the Project Manager and Chief Geologist for West Rand Consolidated Mines Limited where he was involved in the development and mining of the Kalahari Goldridge Mine. He was also the Chief Exploration Geologist for Harmony Gold Exploration involved in the exploration of various greenstone belts in southern Africa and Peru, South America. He had a stint as lecturer at the Geology Department of the University of Zululand, and was a finalist of Boss of the Year in 2008.
Robinson is a former Director-General of the Department of Public Service and Administration and a former advisor to various ministers of parliament. He has been involved in the mining sector for more than 10 years and sits on the boards of various listed and non-listed companies.
She is an Independent Director and Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Committee. Kabela is a qualified chartered accountant with more than 13 years’ experience in the corporate financial environment. She has held Management positions in various sectors and was the Chairman of Interactive Intelligence South Africa. She is Chairman of KEW ICT Outsourcing and serves on several other boards including Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) and Corridor Mining Resources.
Thivha is a chemical Engineer with operational, process design and project management experience in the mineral processing industry spanning over 12 years. He has proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects and mining production operations while holding Senior Management positions (as Plant manager, Operations Manager and Works Manager) with Xstrata Alloys (Glencore Alloys). He has extensive experience in minerals projects development, mineral processing, plant design, and plant construction. He was General Manager of United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK); an operation consisting of opencast mine with a processing plant.
As former CEO of Thebe Capital responsible looking after a portfolio of strategic investments across various sectors, she holds a CA (SA), ACMA, MBA (GIBS) and Executive Programmes from Harvard, Insead and Oxford. Her diverse professional experience ranges from general management, finance, corporate governance, strategy, restructuring, business development, through to sales and distribution.
Prior to joining the Thebe Group, Zukie held various senior positions at the Barclays Africa Group, Old Mutual Retail Mass, Royal Bafokeng Holdings and South African Breweries.
Zukie has served on a number of non-profit, public and listed boards including, but not limited to Shell SA, Altech Netstar, Vodacom SA, SAfripol, Combined Motor Holdings, STISA and Sekelo Oil Trading. She also served on the board of the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals as well as the African Woman Chartered Accountants Forum. she is a member of the institute of directors and recognized as a fellow.
In recognition of her outstanding leadership and achievements, Zukie is a Desmond Tutu and an International Woman’s Forum Fellow (IWF) where she is the youngest member of the South African Chapter (IWFSA). She is the founding member of the African Leadership Network (ALN), an invitation-only network of dynamic African leaders and is a member of Graca Machel’s New Faces New Voices Network (NVNF) which advocates for change in business and finance by harnessing the potential of women in Africa.
Ms. Nomavuso Mnxasana received her training from Deloitte and Touch. After completing her articles, she spent one year at Deloitte before joining Sizwe Ntsaluba (former Nkonki Sizwe Ntsaluba). During her tenure at Sizwe Ntsaluba she was specializing in consulting, internal auditing and attests function. She started the Corporate Governance division which housed the internal audit services, as she identified this opportunity during the introduction of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). She was also involved in staff development and training as a staff partner for five years.
She was appointed to the Barloworld board in October 2017. She was a senior partner and member of the executive committee of SizweNtsaluba VSP before serving as group audit and risk executive at Imperial Holdings Limited. She is a former director of Nedbank Group and the JSE Limited and currently holds directorships at Arcelor Mittal SA Limited and Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited.
He is a former banker and has an indirect shareholding in Wescoal. Eric is an entrepreneur with business experience dating back to 1981. He has qualifications in Analytical Chemistry and Industrial Relations.

Mr Enos Lentsoane was appointed the Executive Head of Commercial and Investments effective 1 May 2019. He has over 12 years’ investment banking experience, with the latter six (6) years focusing on mining advisory at Nedbank Limited’s Corporate and Investment Banking division (“Nedbank”) and Cinga Capital Proprietary Limited. During his time at Nedbank, Mr Lentsoane advised Wescoal on a number of transactions including among others, the black economic empowerment (“BEE”) transaction that saw the company becoming majority black-owned, the acquisition of Keaton Energy Holdings Limited (“Keaton”) and various capital raising transactions. His duties encompass the entire corporate finance value chain, with a strong mix of operational and strategic aspects relating to the company’s organic (internal growth options) and inorganic growth strategy (mergers and acquisitions).
He is a seasoned Corporate Executive with specialisation in strategy and planning with more than 25 years in the energy industry. He has experience in both General Management, Strategy Development, Corporate Planning and Project and Programme management with extensive experience in product development and commercialisation. His engineering background rounds off his balanced profile. Freddy has been a Divisional Executive – Strategy Support at Eskom Holdings with a primary responsibility of leading and developing the Eskom Strategy, Corporate Plan, Shareholder Compact and development of company mandates; and for ensuring alignment of subsidiaries and all divisions to Eskom strategy and plan until December 2018.
Overall, Nozi has 18 years’ experience in internal auditing, compliance and risk management. She started her career at Thompson & Company as an Accountant and further moved to Statistics SA in a similar role. As of 2002, she began her career in internal auditing leading to her holding the Chief Audit Executive at Sport and Recreation South Africa. Her most recent position was Head of Risk and Compliance for Royal Bafokeng Platinum Mine.
Nozi has extensive experience in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Risk Management and Strategy, Compliance Management, Financial Management, Ethics Management, Fraud Management as well as policies & processes. She is currently busy with her B.Com Honours in Internal Auditing as well as her MBA.
Our Business
Strategy
Salungano Group has been and will remain substantially invested in coal. However, it will be a reducing component of our investment portfolio as we mine the reserves at our existing coal mines.
